Meet the Founder – Jemma Handley
JH Data Protection Limited is led by Jemma Handley, a qualified solicitor with over a decade of experience in data protection and information law.
Jemma qualified as a solicitor in 2008 after training with a Legal 500-ranked law firm in Islington, London. She later returned to her hometown of Derby, where she now works remotely and on a hybrid basis, supporting clients across the UK and internationally.
With a strong background in public, private and third sectors, Jemma has advised local authorities, commercial organisations, non-profit and professional services firms on complex compliance issues. She brings particular expertise in drafting and negotiating data sharing and processing agreements, managing data breach responses, and supporting clients through DPIAs, data mapping, and ROPA exercises.
Jemma also provides strategic guidance on FOI and EIR compliance and has experience representing organisations in litigation and regulatory matters. Known for her practical, risk-aware approach, she is passionate about helping organisations build strong, sustainable data protection frameworks through tailored advice, training, and policy development.
